Curriculum
Education

Do you think your curriculum is updated? Here are the insights about it!

Tired of learning names of the historical fighters? Can’t remember mathematical formulas? Periodical table seems too boring? History and Geography could be done better? English says use me? And the list goes on! Obviously each one of us must have related to this scenario as we all have been through it.

Education: Theoretical or practical?

From staying up nights to learn answers and reciting math formulae a 100 times to get it on the tip of our tongue, We all stumbling upon rocks called “Exams” cleared our School Education! But did we really had ourselves educated or just mugged up a few things, wrote them down and forgot after a few days? A question to think upon. Education and knowledge are two different concepts.

Where “Education demands a Degree and Qualification, “Knowledge” can be enormous and vast and might not require a paper certifying you!

Whether it’s History or Science, or even at College level Economics or Psychology, what we are thought is a lot of theoretical aspects rather than practical ones. We are basically judged on our memorizing power rather than our depth of knowledge on the topic. How beautiful it would be to learn if history was taught by practically visiting a fort or battlefield or Economics was taught by practically watching how our system works!

Leaving all the subjects behind, we most importantly should have been focusing on “Skill-development”. While teaching Math our focus should be on problem solving. Similarly while learning economics we should learn the art of spending and earning, for Psychology we must focus on Understanding behavior, while learning Logic we must find reasoning.

To be precise there are a lot more practical aspects than just mugging up or rote-learn notes.

Curriculum: Outdated or Updated?

Enough about theoretical aspects, now let us come to another major issue our curriculum. Don’t you think our curriculum is boring, not updated and vast? As much as it is important to know how gravity was invented and how our freedom fighters laid their lives to free our motherland, it is equally important to learn what is new rather what the now is. In the era of robots and electronic technology we aren’t taught about new inventions, personality development, and recent political, economical and national issues. Rather we are stuck upon the past which is eventually going outdated. Even if, our curriculum is updated, it is less practical and we all somewhere or other agree with the fact.

Let us all hope for a revolutionary move in our education system and it’s obvious that this move is going to come from the key of the education system, that is the youth. Education caters to your needs but knowledge empowers you!
